Inflation Numbers should be much higher

Real inflation is much higher than the numbers published by the government.

The official US CPI data is flawed by excluding and replacing certain items in calculating inflation as well as by modifications in the calculation methodology, what results in much lower numbers as compared with those that result by applying the method of calculation used before 1980.

Official US inflation is below 2% but alternative calculations put real inflation between 4 and 10%. Since the 'Money Printers' need low inflation to justify further 'printing', inflation numbers are pushed down and mis-stated. But it's not only the United States who cheat on inflation numbers, most other countries do the same.
